About Ruth Coyne

A Compassionate Author with a Purpose

Ruth Coyne is an Oregon-based author whose writing is deeply inspired by real-life experiences, empathy, and a strong commitment to supporting families during challenging times. It’s Me, Brooklyn! is Ruth’s heartfelt contribution to the world, born from her personal connection to a childhood cancer journey within her own family. Her niece, Brooklyn, was the inspiration behind the book, and Ruth felt a deep desire to create a story that would support siblings of pediatric cancer patients.

The Inspiration Behind the Book

Ruth’s journey to writing It’s Me, Brooklyn! began when she saw the emotional toll that a cancer diagnosis took not only on the child undergoing treatment but also on their siblings. Children often struggle with complex emotions like fear, confusion, jealousy, and loneliness, yet their experiences are often overlooked. Ruth wrote this book to give them a voice and provide emotional support during such a difficult time.

A Therapeutic Approach to Storytelling

Through her collaboration with pediatric cancer specialists, Ruth developed It’s Me, Brooklyn! to be both an emotional journey and a helpful resource. The book introduces the “Coping Basket,” a therapeutic tool designed to help children process their emotions. This tool, created with guidance from experts in pediatric oncology, helps children cope with the anxiety and stress that comes from having a sibling with cancer.

Ruth’s intention with this book was to create a story that not only offers comfort but also empowers children to express and understand their feelings in a safe, supportive environment.

Giving Back

Ruth is deeply committed to making a difference in the lives of children and families dealing with cancer. A portion of the proceeds from It’s Me, Brooklyn! is donated to the American Cancer Society, in honor of all children and families navigating the challenges of pediatric cancer. This aligns with Ruth’s mission of not only providing emotional healing through storytelling but also supporting broader efforts in cancer awareness and research.

Ruth’s Commitment to Families

Living in Oregon with her husband, Ruth continues to focus her work on supporting children and families through difficult times. Her writing reflects her core belief in the healing power of being seen and heard, especially during life’s toughest challenges. Through It’s Me, Brooklyn! and future projects, Ruth’s work aims to raise awareness about the often-overlooked emotional needs of siblings in families affected by illness.

Ruth’s Message

“My mission as an author is to provide children with the tools they need to understand and manage their emotions during difficult times. Through my book, I hope to support not only the siblings of pediatric cancer patients but all children who face tough situations. Every child’s feelings are valid, and I want them to know they’re not alone.”
